Explore Humanity Through Art

The Experience of a Lifetime

Art is a BrIDGE

Art is a bridge connecting the temporal with the eternal, the tangible with the imaginary, the seen with the unseen. It spans the distance between two souls—the artist’s and the viewer’s—and hopes to bring their worlds a little closer together.

About

Jonesboro Art Exhibition

Experience the works of Joshua Granberg as he shares his experience of humanity through art. Viewers will see a breadth of works including drawings and paintings done while Joshua was at the Florence Academy of Art, works inspired by his childhood in Kenya, East Africa, and beyond. Joshua's subject-matter ranges from the intricacies of deeply moving human experiences to the complexities reveiled by light and shadow. In viewing this exhibition one is offered an opportunity to break away from the daily grind and rush to truly pause and consider.

Painted Portraits

A painted portrait is a complex combination of the sitter and the painter, the present and the future, the physical and the spiritual. It differs from portrait photography in that a painting presents the complete and timeless qualities, personality, and expression of the individual as opposed to a moment in time.

The finite image on a stretched canvas contains the infinite expression of a complex human being, and places them on a field of immortality.

The goal of a painted portrait is to capture the essence of the subject. That takes time and effort for the artist and the patron.

The Process

The first step Joshua takes upon receiving a commission is to conduct an interview with the patron and/or sitter. The interview will deal with four main aspects of the patrons life:  Family, Occupation, Recreation, Meaning (their purpose).

After the interview photographs will be taken from which Joshua will complete most of the painting. From the photographs and notes I will create color and compositional studies as ideas for the final portrait. These studies will be presented to the patron for final approval. Once the final approval has been given, he will complete the final painting in his studio.

Who Are We?

We are people that have a passion for exploring humanity with art. We feel that, with art, together we can achieve our dreams.

Joshua Granberg

Fine Artist

My past, like most, contains a swath of emotions.  I was born in Kenya, Africa and at age nine moved to the United States.  After high school in Portland, OR I received degrees in Bible and Ministry as well as Art.  I later completed a BFA in Painting from Harding University.  I then moved to Europe and finished my arts education at the Florence Academy of Art.
